FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how we work. Don't see your question? Just ask.
Do you work on both laptops and desktops?
Yes. We work on Windows laptops and desktops, and can help with many Mac and Chromebook software issues. If you're not sure whether we can help, just send a request and we'll tell you honestly.
What towns do you serve?
We serve Newcastle, Damariscotta, Nobleboro, Waldoboro, Bristol, Edgecomb, Wiscasset, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Brunswick and Topsham, in Midcoast Maine. Tell us your town or ZIP code in your request and we'll confirm. Remote support can reach a little further.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. By appointment only. There's no storefront or walk-in service. Send a request first, and once we've agreed on a plan we'll arrange a convenient drop-off and pickup with you directly.
How much does a repair cost?
Each service lists a typical price range so you know what to expect. Your actual price depends on the problem, and we'll always tell you the price and get your OK before doing any paid work.
Are parts included in the price?
No — prices shown are for the work. Any parts, like a new SSD or memory, are quoted separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for.
How long will my repair take?
It depends on the job and whether parts need to be ordered. We'll give you a realistic estimate when we agree on the plan and keep you posted if anything changes.
Will I lose my files?
Most services don't touch your personal files, and we're careful with your data. But any computer work carries some risk, especially with failing hardware — so please back up anything important beforehand if you can. If you can't, tell us and we'll talk through options.
Can you guarantee you'll recover my data?
No one can honestly guarantee data recovery. If a drive is damaged, we'll tell you what's realistic, and if a specialist lab is a better option, we'll say so.
Do you work on Apple computers?
We can help with many Mac software, setup and transfer questions. Hardware upgrades on most modern Macs aren't possible because parts are built in. Send a request and we'll let you know.
Can you help with printers and Wi-Fi?
We can often help with printer and Wi-Fi setup on your computer, especially through remote support. Describe the problem in a request and we'll tell you whether it's something we can take on.
Do you offer remote support?
Yes, for software and setup problems that don't need hands-on work. We only connect with your permission, using a legitimate support tool, and you can end the session at any time.
What if my computer can't be fixed?
We'll tell you plainly, explain why, and help you weigh your options — including whether a replacement makes more sense. You won't be charged for repair work that wasn't approved.
Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Warranty terms depend on the work performed and any parts used. We'll put them in writing with your quote so there are no surprises.
How do I approve an estimate?
After we look at your request, we'll send you a written estimate. Nothing paid happens until you say yes — and if the job changes along the way, we'll check with you again first.
How should I prepare my computer before drop-off?
Back up important files if you can, bring the charger, and write down anything we should know about the problem. Please don't write passwords on the device or send them online — we'll arrange anything we need with you directly.
